A Public Service Commission Teaching Scholar who joined the Singapore Education Service in 1986, Dr Charles Chew has a wide range of teaching experiences as a college physics lecturer from 1986 to 1996, Head of Science and Vice-Principal of a secondary school between 1997 to 2000, Senior Lecturer (Seconded) at the National Institute of Education from 2000 to 2009, Physics Master Teacher from 2010 to 2011 before being promoted to Principal Master Teacher from 2012 to date at the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST).
As a Principal Master Teacher, Charles is a pedagogical leader and a mentor in a wider education community. He has presented papers in areas related to teaching and learning, research and development at many local and overseas conferences.
He works alongside his fellow Master Teachers to grow the professionalism of the teaching fraternity by living out the ethos, leading, mentoring and inspiring teachers to be caring, competent and passionate mission-driven educators so as to provide quality education for students.
For his valuable contributions rendered to the field of education both locally and overseas, Charles was a recipient of the National Day Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2012.
